Branko Milanovic, a visiting presidential professor at The Graduate Center and a faculty member of the Stone Center on Socio-Economic Inequality, has been named a Centennial Professor at the London School of Economics and Political Science’s International Inequalities Institute for a three-year period beginning in 2020.
The appointment, which Milanovic will serve concurrently with his professorship at The Graduate Center, will allow him to share his expertise on income inequality at two of the world’s premier academic centers devoted to the study of the subject.
“I’m looking forward to doing research and teaching next fall at the London School of Economics,” Milanovic says. “Like those at The Graduate Center, LSE students are inquisitive, deeply interested in inequality, and internationally-minded. I’m also looking forward to teaching parts of my forthcoming book, Capitalism, Alone. It will be a tough audience to please.”
Milanovic is a leading scholar of inequality, both in individual countries and globally, as well as historically. In addition to Capitalism, Alone, he is the author of Global Inequality: A New Approach for the Age of Globalization, which received numerous prizes, and The Haves and the Have-Nots: A Brief and Idiosyncratic History of Global Inequality, which was translated into seven languages and selected by The Globalist as the 2011 Book of the Year. He has published many articles on the methodology and empirics of global income distribution and writes about inequality on his site, globalinequality.
