Florencia Torche, in this presentation for the Stone Center’s 2020 “Inequality by the Numbers” virtual workshop, explores the impact of prenatal exposure to stress on children’s outcomes, especially on their cognitive ability and educational outcomes. Focusing on the case of a 2005 earthquake in Chile, she analyzes the crucial role that stress plays in the intergenerational transmission of inequality. Torche is a faculty member at Stanford University.
